How to Use AI to Write Better Marketing Copy (2026 Guide)

The Problem With AI Marketing Copy

You've tried it. You open ChatGPT, type "write me a marketing email for my product," and get back something technically correct and completely forgettable.

AI copy isn't bad because the models are bad. It's bad because most people ask the wrong thing. The model has no idea who you're selling to, what makes your offer different, or what your customer's real fear is. Generic input produces generic output.

This guide fixes that. Here's a framework for writing AI marketing copy that actually converts — and six prompts you can use today.

The 3-Part Prompt Formula for Marketing Copy

Every high-converting AI copy prompt needs three things:

1. Who is the reader?
Not just "small business owner." Give the AI the pain: "A freelance designer who spends 4 hours a week answering the same client questions."

2. What's the one job this copy needs to do?
Get them to click? Feel understood? Stop scrolling? Be specific.

3. What's the constraint?
Subject line under 50 characters. LinkedIn post under 150 words. No buzzwords. Force the model to make choices.

Without all three, you'll get copy that sounds like marketing copy but doesn't move anyone.

6 AI Copy Prompts You Can Use Right Now

These are built on the formula above. Paste them in, replace the [brackets], and edit the output.

1. Cold email subject line

You're writing a cold email subject line for [your product/service]. The reader is [specific persona + their pain point]. Write 5 subject lines under 50 characters that create curiosity without being clickbait. Avoid words like "synergy," "game-changer," or "exclusive."

2. Product description that sells the outcome

Write a 3-sentence product description for [product name]. The buyer is [persona]. Lead with the outcome they'll get, name the format ("25 ready-to-use templates"), and end with a single risk-reduction line. No hype words.

3. LinkedIn post that stops the scroll

Write a LinkedIn post under 150 words for [topic]. Start with a counterintuitive one-line hook. Use short paragraphs (1-2 sentences max). End with a question that invites comments. Tone: direct and practical, not motivational.

4. Email nurture sequence (3 emails)

Write a 3-email nurture sequence for someone who downloaded [lead magnet]. Email 1 (Day 0): deliver the value + one quick win. Email 2 (Day 3): address the biggest objection to buying [product]. Email 3 (Day 7): make the offer with a clear CTA. Each email under 150 words. Casual, direct tone.

5. Homepage hero headline + subheadline

Write 5 homepage hero headline options for [business/product]. The reader is [persona] who wants [outcome] but struggles with [pain]. Each option: headline (under 10 words) + subheadline (under 20 words). No questions. No puns. Lead with the outcome.

6. Social proof / testimonial rewrite

Rewrite this customer testimonial to be more specific and outcome-focused, without changing the meaning: "[paste original testimonial]". Keep it under 50 words. Highlight the before/after and the specific result if one is mentioned.

Why Most AI Copy Still Misses

Even with great prompts, AI copy fails when you skip the edit. The model gives you a first draft. Your job is to:

  • Cut the opener. AI almost always starts with a warm-up sentence that adds nothing. Delete the first sentence 80% of the time.
  • Add a number or proof point. "Save time" → "Save 4 hours a week." Specifics beat generics.
  • Read it out loud. If it doesn't sound like how you talk, it won't sound like how your customer thinks.

Ten minutes of editing turns an AI draft into copy that converts.

The Real Unlock: Prompt Libraries

The bottleneck isn't ability — it's starting from scratch every time. Once you build a library of prompts that work for your specific voice, product, and customer, the speed compounds. You stop rewriting the same prompt and start shipping.

That's exactly what the Vend AI Prompt Pack is — 100 prompts organized by use case (emails, sales copy, social posts, automation workflows, and more), ready to paste and adapt.

Or if you'd rather build your own from scratch, start with our prompt engineering guide — it walks through the formula in detail.
